What to Wear to a Bridal Shower

When it comes to planning a bridal shower, every bride-to-be knows that the little details are what really make the party sparkle. Whether you’re a maid of honor looking for the perfect venue or simply trying to find a gift that will have the bride-to-be saying “I do!”, there are plenty of options out there. But no matter your role, it’s essential to remember that the bridal shower is about the bride — and there’s no one quite like her! That’s why we’ve rounded up our favorite ways to make this special occasion something truly one-of-a-kind.

First things first: It’s customary to celebrate a bridal shower between two and six months before the wedding date. This gives the bride plenty of time to tie up any remaining wedding-day plans, and ensures that most of her friends & family can attend the party.

Historically, bridal parties were a chance for the bride’s close friends to shower her with gifts leading up to her marriage. While this tradition can be a little sexist (we won’t get into that here), it’s also a beautiful way to celebrate the bond between women and to express love for the bride-to-be.

Bridal showers are typically held in someone’s home or a restaurant, but they can also take place outdoors or even at a hotel or resort. The type of location you choose can help determine what style of outfit is appropriate. For example, if the event is taking place in winter, it’s a good idea to lean towards long dresses, jumpsuits & elegant separates while spring and summer call for lighter materials.

When it comes to what to wear, it’s important to keep in mind that while white is reserved for the bride on her big day, it’s perfectly fine to sport lighter shades of ivory at a bridal shower (just be sure not to mix it with eggshell or blush). It’s also wise to avoid any light colors that can appear white in photos.
